module 8
3. In what ways has economic globalization more closely linked the world’s peoples?
Reglobalization of the worlds economy is the Acceleration of circulation of goods, capital, and people meant globalization thus enabling workers to travel to other countries for employment. Transnational corporations produced & delivered goods in & to many different countries which led to diversity & exchange. Goods weren’t just staying local within he countries but it was dividing out everywhere allowing for new opportunities to come in, similar to the silk roads. Money was also mobile as foreign direct investment one country opens a factory in another for better efficiency in making products and delivering them, the short-term movement of capitol onvestors annually spent trillions of dollars buying foreign currencies and sold them quickly afte, person credit cards began to be used also . Global stock market is the transnational corporations.
What distinguished feminism in the industrialized countries from that in the Global South?
Second wave feminism had a new emphasis on employment and education. The radical American feminism known as women's liberation looked at patriarchy as domination and they wanted to change that. African American women viewed family as a secure base from that helped them combat against racism while white middle class feminists who found their family oppressive colored women focused on racism and poverty. Global South welcomed women for support. But because some women found that they had different views of fmeiisnm then others it caused a split between some people especially with African American women and white women. Many did not support concerns that started American or European feminism. Global South feminist movement started to become more if self help groups.
2) What factors contributed to economic globalization in the second half of the twentieth century
The capitalist victors from WWII wanted too avoid any return to such Depression-era conditions. The World Bank and the International Monetary Fund helped with postwar globalization which helped stabilize the economics in the government which Were at the tike very low due to the war. The Bretton Woods system ,“ they negotiated the rules for commercial and financial dealings among the major capitalist countries, while promoting relatively free trade, stable currency values linked to the US dollar, and high levels of capital investment” (strayer). Technology started to grow like it does in every decade and it brought to the post-war world, containerized shipping, huge oil tankers, and air express services dramatically lowered costs for transporting goods.
The differences between the Global South and the West win regards to feminism were evident in this chapter. It makes sense that colored women focused on racism and poverty. Reglobalization also aided in outsourcing things to other places of the world.
